"A warrior whose tunic catches upon his own blade or shield boss is half-slain before the clash begins." Osric, Keeper of the Hearth & Forge
Known historically as winingas, these practical forearm wraps draw their design directly from ninth- to eleventh-century Norse archaeology, mirroring fragments recovered from mercantile garrison centres such as Birka and Hedeby. In those harsh northern climates, Norse fighters, tradesmen, and voyagers relied upon such gear to hold sleeve fabric close to the limbs, keeping bulk out of the way of weapon handling while offering insulation against damp chill.
Woven from a sturdy blend of seventy percent wool and thirty percent nylon, each wrap measures roughly one hundred inches in length by two inches in width. The natural wool fibres preserve body heat even when thoroughly soaked on campaign, whilst the nylon content reinforces structural integrity, preventing excessive stretching through hard marches. Handcrafted using traditional methods, each piece bears natural variations in weave and tone.
The pair comes complete with solid brass fibula pins to secure the wraps firmly around forearms or lower legs. When winding them on, begin at the wrist or ankle, wrapping firmly upward in overlapping spiral turns before driving the brass pin through the final fold to lock the wrap in place. For upkeep after field use, hand wash in cold water with mild soap, avoiding bleach or machine laundering. Press only with low steam beneath a protective cloth, and lay flat in the shade to dry. Store loosely rolled to maintain fibre strength until the next muster.
