Osric, Keeper of the Hearth & Forge

"A proper crest on your gear tells every man in the field precisely whose banner you march beneath." Osric, Keeper of the Hearth & Forge

Dating to the thirteenth century, the soaring eagle in full display within an escutcheon served as an unmistakable signifier of rank, nobility, and martial honour across Norman, Germanic, and Holy Roman territories. This recreation brings that noble heraldry directly to your campaign harness.

Every piece is shaped through traditional lost-wax casting, a method rooted in ancient forge traditions. The process commences with a hand-sculpted wax master, replaced by molten bronze to ensure fine definition in the spread wings and heraldic escutcheon. Because each badge is individually cast and hand-finished at the bench, expect minor natural variations in texture and bronze tone that give each mount its own character.

Measuring 3.4 cm in height by 3 cm in width, this solid bronze badge is proportioned for practical wear without fouling your arms or gear. For fastening, dual sturdy bronze pins on the reverse provide a firm grip through tough belt leather, armour straps, heavy woollen tunics, or cloak mantles.

To preserve its service life, treat the metal with soldierly sense. Never soak the badge in water or scour it with abrasive chemical agents. When cleaning post-campaign, simply wipe down the face with a dry or lightly oiled cloth. Do not rub the bronze raw; permit the dark patina to settle naturally into the recesses, giving the eagle an authentic, battle-seasoned appearance fit for any garrison or gathering.
