"A cracked shin will fell even the stoutest man-at-arms before the battle lines clash; guard your lower legs, and you keep the field." Osric, Keeper of the Hearth & Forge
Forged in the utilitarian fashion of the High to Late Middle Ages, these classic greaves provide crucial defence for shin and calf, serving foot soldiers and mounted knights alike. Beaten from 18 gauge mild steel, they strike an ideal compromise on the anvil – stout enough to withstand the knocks of theatrical tourneys and LARP campaigns, yet light enough to prevent fatigue during long marches at the faire.
The outward face gleams with a fine mirror-polished finish, lending an authentic, noble lustre to your harness. On the reverse, a protective black coating seals the steel against sweat and damp, curbing corrosion during storage in the armoury. Solid genuine leather straps, punched with multiple adjustment holes and fitted with robust steel buckles, cinch the harness securely over hose, trousers, or padded gambesons without shifting out of true.
These plates harmonise readily with knee cops, sabatons, and broader plate harness, completing the kit of a crusader, mercenary, or sworn man-at-arms. To preserve this ironwork between musterings, wipe the metal clean with a dry cloth after each engagement, apply a sparing film of oil across the mirror face, and treat the leather straps with conditioner to retain their suppleness against the elements.
