"A man-at-arms without a sturdy pouch upon his waist will soon find his coin scattered to the mud." Osric, Keeper of the Hearth & Forge
Inspired by functional 14th-century European designs, this medieval belt pouch balances pliable suede with thick genuine leather where rigidity is demanded. The supple suede body yields and expands to house daily sundries – whether coins, dice, or arming points – whilst the stout leather spine and overhanging flap preserve structural integrity through long marches and bustling market days.
Closure is managed via a genuine ox horn toggle, individually shaped and polished by hand to reveal the raw grain and natural variances of the horn. Working in tandem with an internal leather drawcord, this traditional toggle provides a steadfast fastening that keeps your provisions secure even in rough terrain. Handcrafted construction ensures no two examples carry the exact same marks of hand and bench.
For fitting, the robust rear leather loop accepts any standard war belt or girding strap up to approximately two inches (5 cm) wide. Slung at the hip, the pouch sits close to your arming doublet or tunic, avoiding awkward shifts whilst keeping your hands free for the spear or tankard.
Care for this piece as you would any campaign leather: clean the suede body with a stiff, dry bristle brush, and treat the thick leather flap with occasional balm. Shield it from heavy drenching and direct sun to preserve its finish.
