"A warrior’s shield carries both his hide and his heraldry into the fray; take steel that will bear both without faltering." Osric, Keeper of the Hearth & Forge
Formed upon the anvil, this medieval heater shield delivers reliable protection whether bound for LARP campaigns, renaissance gatherings, or wall display. Forged individually by hand, each shield retains honest surface marks and subtle variations, lending true artisan character straight from the workshop hammer.
We forge this bulwark in two gauges and three distinct finishes. The natural hammered variant is beaten from thick 16-gauge steel, offering robust heft and resilience for field roleplay. Alternatively, the black and white painted variants are crafted in 18-gauge steel, granting lighter carriage whilst providing an expansive, smooth surface primed for your own heraldic symbols, colours, or custom paintwork. The shield's authentic curved profile enhances defensive coverage, deflecting incoming blows away from the bearer's body.
Behind the face, practical fittings make this piece fully functional for the field. A solid wooden grip ensures firm handling, paired with an adjustable genuine leather strap that secures comfortably around the forearm to distribute weight effectively.
Maintenance is straightforward but essential to prevent rust. Following any muster or foul weather, wipe down all surfaces with a clean, dry cloth. Avoid prolonged exposure to moisture, and house the shield in a dry environment. Periodically work a thin film of mineral or machine oil across the steel to preserve the metal against time and campaign damp.
