"A warrior values an honest draught as much as a keen blade once the shield-wall breaks for camp." Osric, Keeper of the Hearth & Forge
Shaped in the venerable Norse tradition, this drinking horn is hewn from genuine ox horn, offering an approximate 500 ml measure fit for long nights at the feast bench. Because natural horn provides the raw material, no two pieces share identical lines; each specimen reveals its own striking balance of dark grain, pale ivory tones, and distinct surface ridges before being smoothed to an even, polished draught-ready finish.
Whether garrisoned at a weekend reenactment encampment, marching to a LARP gathering, or resting upon a collector’s mantle, this horn brings the stark atmosphere of ancient great halls into your grasp. Practicality dictates respect for the horn’s natural state. It is tempered strictly for cold and room-temperature beverages – scalding pottage or steaming brews will warp and ruin the horn. Keep it far from modern scullery engines and boiling wash water.
To preserve its integrity campaign after campaign, rinse the vessel before its initial draught and wash solely by hand using cool water. Avoid prolonged soaking in the bucket, and wipe it thoroughly dry after every feast. A periodic dressing of natural beeswax across the surface will nourish the horn, sealing the finish and defending it against the elements. Treat this vessel with proper soldier’s discipline, and it shall toast many a hard-fought victory.
