"A bare leather strap is unfinished work, liable to curl and fray when campaigning hard," Osric, Keeper of the Hearth & Forge.
Forged from solid pure brass and worked by hand, this medieval belt chape serves both martial utility and modest display. Measuring 5.86 cm in length and 2.11 cm across, its clean, tapered lines and pointed finial provide the necessary heft to keep your belt hanging true from the waist, whether amidst an encampment, on the tournament field, or during an SCA gathering.
Crafted to accommodate leather straps between 1.75 and 2 cm in width – and roughly 0.35 cm thick – this fitting is designed to seat cleanly over prepared hide. To secure it firmly at the workbench, two solid brass rivets measuring 1.03 cm in length by 0.26 cm in diameter are included. Peened with care, they lock the terminal in place, preventing the raw leather tip from splitting or wearing down over seasons in the mud.
The polished surface gleams handsomely against dyed harness leather, yet demands little labour to maintain. After a long muster or march through rain, simply wipe away grit with a dry cloth and store the leatherwork in a dry place to stave off unwanted tarnish. When the brass begins to dull from campaign sweat, a modest application of mild polish restores its bright lustre without scouring the artisan's finish. A steadfast piece of kit for reenactor and man-at-arms alike.
