"A warrior's belt carries more than steel; it anchors a man's pride and keeps his gear true in the press of battle." Osric, Keeper of the Hearth & Forge
Drawn from the material culture of 10th-century Scandinavia, this solid bronze buckle is a testament to the artisan's craft. Modelled after archaeological grave finds belonging to high-status Norse seafarers and chieftains, such fittings adorned leather girdles worn over woollen tunics and heavy cloaks.
Every buckle is individually cast using the time-honoured lost-wax technique, yielding a deeply textured surface with subtle variations unique to each casting. The openwork interlacing beast motif reflects the zoomorphic Borre and Urnes traditions, where coiling serpent-forms offered symbolic warding and declared the bearer's station.
With an overall length of roughly 4.7 cm, this piece is proportioned for narrower straps up to 1.5 cm wide. On the campaign trail or within the garrison, it functions properly as an anchor for secondary belts, suspension for sword frogs, or ties for utility pouches.
Care for your bronze as you would any field equipment. Keep it clear of damp and harsh compounds. Should you wish to brighten the relief against the recessed shadows of the cast, work the raised facets gently with a dry cloth or a dab of non-abrasive brass polish. Store it dry between musterings, and this bronze will serve your impression faithfully through seasons of rain, grit, and shield-clash.
