"A proper war-arrow does not always seek an enemy's mail; often enough, taking their sails or snapping a siege line strikes the truer blow." Osric, Keeper of the Hearth & Forge
This hand-forged iron arrowhead draws its lineage from tactical ingenuity on land and sea. Known as a rope cutter or crescent point, its distinctive U-shaped maw was forged for specialised strikes. In naval warfare, archers loosed these broad irons across open water to shred canvas sails and sever taut deck rigging, stalling enemy vessels before boarding actions. During prolonged sieges, the same geometry proved capable of parting ropes that held engine counterweights and trebuchet lashings.
Beyond the din of siege and shipboard combat, the crescent head remains a practical tool for the field hunter. Loosed against small quarry like hare and fowl, the wide cutting span provides an effective strike, whilst the flaring prongs stop the arrow from driving deep under thick turf and grass, saving precious shafts from being lost to the earth.
Each head is hammered by hand from durable iron, measuring approximately 3.7 cm in total length. The socket features an inner diameter of 8.5 to 9 mm, readily accepting standard wooden shafts fitted with traditional hide glue or a light friction taper. Fresh from the forge, each piece arrives dressed in a protective coating of oil to ward off rust during transit; wipe it clean with a dry linen cloth before hafting. Built for reenactors and archers who value authentic ironwork, this piece brings unyielding utility to your war-chest.
