FAQs
About Battle Worlds & Our Gear
What is Battle Worlds?
Battle Worlds is a UK-based supplier of authentic historical armour, re-enactment gear, period clothing, leather goods, and weaponry. We specialise in field-ready equipment for living history practitioners, re-enactors, LARPers, and stage/screen work. We are the specialist UK retailer for Lord of Battles.
Are your products the same as those used in film and TV?
As the specialist UK stockist of Lord of Battles, we supply their range of field-ready armour, clothing and accessories. Lord of Battles gear has been used on major productions including Game of Thrones, House of the Dragon and The Witcher. Our ranges focus on historical accuracy, durability and practical use.
Is your gear historically accurate?
Our living history and re-enactment ranges are based on authentic historical patterns, materials, and construction methods. Individual product pages note the relevant period and specifications. While perfect museum-level accuracy can vary by item and use case, everything is curated for genuine re-enactment and LARP rather than costume-shop quality.
Who are your products suitable for?
- Living history and re-enactment (display and combat)
- LARP
- Stage combat and film/TV productions
- Collectors who want durable, authentic pieces
Always check the individual product description for recommended use.
Combat, Weapons & Suitability
Are your swords and weapons blunt or sharp?
Unless explicitly stated otherwise, our combat swords and weapons are supplied blunt with rounded tips, suitable for re-enactment, sparring, or stage combat. Always inspect items on arrival and follow your group’s or event’s safety rules.
Is your armour suitable for full-contact combat (e.g. Buhurt, HEMA, or heavy re-enactment)?
Steel gauges vary (typically in the 1.2–1.6 mm / 18–16 gauge range). Product descriptions state whether an item is intended for LARP, living history display, lighter re-enactment, or heavier full-contact use. For high-intensity combat, check the specifics carefully or contact us for advice.
Do you sell live-steel or sharp weapons?
We primarily stock blunt, re-enactment-safe weapons. Any exceptions will be clearly marked on the product page. All customers are responsible for complying with local laws regarding ownership, transport, and use of edged or replica weapons.
Sizing & Fit
How do I find the right size?
Every relevant product includes a dedicated size chart in its image gallery. Measure yourself (chest, waist, hips, etc.) while wearing the under-layers you plan to use (gambeson, arming doublet, arming cap, etc.), then match those measurements to the chart.
What if I’m between sizes?
For padded gear and gambesons, we generally recommend sizing up to allow mobility and layering. For steel pieces, contact us with your measurements and intended use before ordering so we can advise.
Do you offer custom sizing or made-to-measure?
Most of our stock is ready-to-wear. Custom or heavily personalised pieces have longer lead times and are generally non-returnable unless defective. Contact quartermaster@battleworlds.co.uk to discuss options.
Ordering, Delivery & Shipping
How long will my order take to arrive?
UK standard tracked delivery is typically 2–4 business days for in-stock items once dispatched. Express options (1–2 business days) are available. Processing happens Monday–Friday (excluding bank holidays). You will receive a tracking link once your order leaves our East Yorkshire facility.
Do you offer free delivery?
Yes — free UK standard tracked delivery on all orders over £50. Orders under £50 are £3.95 for standard delivery. Heavier or oversized items (full harnesses, bulk gear, etc.) may have rates calculated at checkout or ship via specialist couriers.
Do you ship internationally?
We currently focus on UK delivery. If you would like an international quote, email quartermaster@battleworlds.co.uk with details of what you need and your location.
Can I change my delivery address after ordering?
Once an order has entered our dispatch system we cannot alter the address. Please double-check your details at checkout.
Returns & Refunds
What is your returns policy?
You may return unused, unwashed items in their original condition within 14 days of delivery for a full refund. Contact us first at quartermaster@battleworlds.co.uk with your order number to receive return authorisation and the returns address.
Who pays for return postage?
Customers are responsible for return shipping unless the item arrived damaged, faulty, or incorrect. We recommend a tracked service.
Can I return armour or leather that has been worn or used in the field?
No. Items showing signs of field wear, combat use, or modifications cannot be accepted. Custom or personalised items are also non-returnable unless defective.
How long do refunds take?
Once we receive and inspect the return at our Driffield facility, refunds are processed to the original payment method within 5–7 business days.
Care & Maintenance
How do I stop steel armour and chainmail from rusting?
Wipe down after use to remove moisture and sweat. Apply a thin coat of mineral oil, gun oil, or Renaissance Wax, and store in a dry place. Avoid sealing steel in plastic bags or airtight containers. Items often arrive lightly oiled for protection — wipe excess oil before first use.
How should I clean leather goods?
Wipe off mud and dust with a soft damp cloth. Never soak leather. Condition periodically with a suitable leather balm or dubbin, especially after rain. Dry slowly at room temperature away from direct heat.
Can I machine-wash clothing and gambesons?
Most linen and cotton items can be gently machine-washed at 30°C. Many padded gambesons and wool pieces are better hand-washed or dry-cleaned — always check the care label or product page. Avoid tumble drying.
Full care guidance is available on our Care & Maintenance page.
